Symbian Developer Network Wiki competition
Now is the time to show off your knowledge, contribute to history, help your community and have a chance to get your hands on some of the latest and most impressive Symbian devices. The Symbian Developer Network is looking for articles for its Wiki and in order to inspire you, every qualifying entry has the chance to win one of the following devices:

Enter the Nokia Open C Challenge
The Symbian Developer Network is excited to announce the Nokia Open C Challenge! Your challenge, should you choose to accept, is to develop a mobile application by porting existing code into the Nokia Open C environment (which is built on Symbian P.I.P.S.). Whether you're new to S60 on Symbian OS or already familiar with C++ programming, the Nokia Open C environment lets you easily port existing open source projects to mobile.

We've updated the example VNC files to match the latest release of P.I.P.S. There's the latest source, latest .SIS files (signed for S60 and UIQ) and the whitepaper's also been updated.

We are happy to announce that we are now publishing header files allowing developers to make use of the built-in Symbian OS cryptography libraries. These header files are being made available on the Symbian developer website as a package which can be installed over the top of an existing S60 3rd edition or UIQ 3 SDK, and includes APIs for encryption and decryption using symmetric and asymmetric keys, and password-based encryption and decryption. Applications compiled using these APIs will use the cryptography libraries built in to Symbian OS phones and emulators.

Automating The Certificate Process
Nokia and Symbian have recently co-launched a new developer certificate tool. The most significant enhancements are the automatic approval of new certificate requests and the availability of additional certificate details through a Web interface. Once an initial certificate is approved, subsequent requests will be automatically granted and made valid for six months. Developers who need either sensitive capabilities (such as digital rights management) or a certificate for more than 100 devices (IMEIs) will still need to go through the manufacturer-approved devcerts channel.

Test your applications on the MOTO Z8
Since the availability of the final UIQ 3.1 SDK on the UIQ Developer Portal a couple of months ago, you've had all the tools needed and enough time to create or port your applications to the Motorola MOTO Z8. As the phone appears in shops in more countries, what you might have been lacking is the opportunity to have the phone in your hands and check that your applications run on it as intended.
